Step 9 - Don't be too hard on yourself

Day 9 of the National Blog Post Month challenge where I’m writing a blog post every day along the theme of 30 Steps to Happiness and Contentment.

Ok, I'm late with my posting today, very late, but I have my excuses.  I wasn't well yesterday, so had an early night and it was just as well as I had a really busy day today at the shop.  I'd decided to set aside my lunch break to do my blog, but a friend dropped by who I haven't seen for ages and needed to chat.  The evening I had to make tea and then dash out for a choir meeting/practice at 7,30 for the carols I'm organising for our Charity Christmas Fayre at our shop later next month.  I got back at 11.30pm, so now's the first opportunity to write today's blog!

The reason I'm telling you all this is to try and make a point.  The point is that it's good to try your best to achieve the goals you set for yourself, but don't beat yourself up if you can't!

Sometimes, it's just not possible and other 'things' have to take priority.  I've set myself this task of blogging every day, nobody's forced me to do it, nothing's going to happen if I don't, so I have to prioritise.  My kids, business and friends come first.  If I've got time after that, great, if not it'll have to wait!

I was getting really stressed earlier because I hadn't had chance to do it, but why?  What's going to happen?  This is just a rather mundane example, there are obviously much bigger ones that happen from time to time.  Sometimes we have to let other people down, sometimes we have to admit we can't achieve what we'd set out to do right now, but it's important to recognise when to say "sorry I can't do this" and not to feel guilty about it.

Life is full of choices, once you've made your choice, stick to it and don't look back.  You do what you can, with what you have and the time available and you can't expect any more of yourself and neither should anyone else!
